Shadwell Basin formed the eastern entry to London Docks and is the location of this project.
The proposal is a social condenser to be used as training and as media centre for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic canoeing and kayaking teams. It includes a place for eating, drinking and media interviews, a small auditorium/press room and a space where exhibitions about Olympic / Paralympic history - activities can be staged. Also changing facilities and flexible workspaces which can be used to service, maintain and store equipement inclding canoes.
Based on the site surroundings, the celeration of water sport and the richness of programs, the design's form and hierarchy of activities, is inspired by cruise boats. In a geometrical minimal version, the sheme is a synthesis of wooden decks, cantiliver roof and a mast.
